The Power of Praise!

Another Happy Friday!

I had a huge reminder yesterday of the power of praise. I got an email from someone who I greatly esteem. He was praising me for something that I do for the good that I get from it. All evening long I was on a cloud of excitement. When Amy got home I made her come read the email before she even had a chance to get settled. We all know how much it means to receive praise from our peers, but I wonder if we sometimes forget to give more than we get?

When you are working with your Avon partners it is very easy to get frustrated when things aren’t going the way you want them to. And if they do something that isn’t quite like you think it should be done you probably want to tear your hair out!!! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe you tell someone that something was great when it was horrible! But people being people, they are going to make mistakes. I heard once that there is no such thing as constructive criticism and I really believe that is true. If you can word your suggestions in such a way as to make them understand a better way to do something versus the idea that they did it wrong, it will help keep their feelings intact.

If at the same time you can find something to praise them for, you will leave them in a much better frame of mind to do what they need to do. I try very hard to stick to this idea, because I have found that there is ALWAYS something I can find to compliment them on.

While I am addressing this to your Avon business, please remember the idea should expand to everyone in your life. Your customers, your family, your friends and everyone you come in contact with on a daily basis will benefit from your postive happy attitude.

I have always tried to make a point of getting a smile from everyone I meet or talk to. This can sometimes be quite a trial But trust me, it works. If can leave a person a little happier than they were when I first got there, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

So as we finish our week and head into the week-end, maybe you will think about this and start “praising your people to success”. Just try it and see. I guarantee that not only will the people around you be happier, but so will you!
