Do You Know What Day It Is?

Of course!   It’s Hump Day!

For those of you who noticed, I have been away for a few weeks!  I wasn’t goofing off, but was sick and now getting better!  Hopefully I will be back in full swing shortly.

So today is Hump Day!  But it more than that!  It is the first day of the rest of your life!  But, it is also the “First Day of the Rest of Your Avon Business!”  I talked with several of my business associates yesterday and I found that a certain amount of apathy had crept into their businesses.  Please don’t think I am immune to this issue, I certainly am not.  But we get so involved in the day to day workings of our life and our business that we seem lose our focus on achieving our goals and dreams in our work.

So what is the answer?  How do we keep the enthusiasm up when life keeps getting in the way?  If you listen to motivational speakers there are a lot of different ways and surely at least one would work for you. Keeping your goals posted in a prominent place, where you are forced to look at them every day is one way.    Reviewing them at least one a week to see where you are and what needs to be done the following week is another way.

Regardless of how you do it, it is vital that you DO something! Keeping our goals fresh and in the front of our mind is the only way that we can work our dreams and make them happen.

So today, make a plan, set your goals, and figure a way to keep them fresh and you WILL succeed.

Have a wonderful day,

Micki

Why Go Into Avon?

Happy Friday the 13th! Smile

I spend a lot of my time helping people start their Avon business and helping people to realize the benefits of owning their own business.  A lot of people in my downline say they don’t know what to say  when talking to a potential recruit.  I believe the attributes of this business are pretty easy to explain so I am going to give you my opinion of why this business is the way to go.

1.   YOU WORK YOUR OWN HOURS.    Let me rush to say, that doesn’t mean that you don’t work…you do!  But you are able to schedule your work and your leisure so that you have the time to do what you want and the time to work.  You don’t have someone saying  you must be in a certain place until a certain time.  So while you are working hard, it is on your terms.

2.  YOU WORK WITH WHO YOU WANT.  I’m sure each of you has worked at a job that had at least one person you just could not deal with.  While I have to admit I have my favorite and not-so-favorite people, as a general rule, if I don’t like them at all, I don’t have to work with them.

3. YOU HAVE UNLIMITED EARNING POTENTIAL.  In a regular job, no matter how hard you work, your salary depends on the boss and how much the company can afford to pay you.  Even though raises might come often (or maybe not), in a regular 9-5,  in our type of business the skys the limit!  That is hard to beat

4. YOU CAN’T BE FIRED OR LAID OFF.  Unless you go directly against all rules and policies of the company (and why would you?) you have enormous job security.  In our economy down sizing is a normal thing these days.  Also, in our state, an employer doesn’t have to have a reason to fire you.

If you aren’t already in the business, hopefully this will give you some good reasons to get started.  If you are already a Representative, maybe this will remind you why you came in.  If nothing else, I hope it will serve to get you moving towards changing your life and moving toward those goals and dreams that you nurture in your heart of hearts.

Have a great week-end!!

When The Going Gets Tough

Another Happy Hump Day!

I’m sure all of you have heard the phrase “When the going gets tough, the tough get going!”.

This is true in every aspect of our lives, but I think even more so in our home based Avon business.  When sales and recruting are down I see so many people who either give up totally or suddenly find so many other things they need to be doing.

But the truth is, you may be just about to make it work when you give up. Maybe it’s time to do some serious thinking about your attitude or as Zig Ziglar was fond of saying, “You need a check up from the neck up”.  Smile

I have been forced to do my own checkup recently.  I found I was agonizing over a crucial problem in my Unit for the last few days.  My thoughts were seldom anywhere else and I must admit to you that they were NOT very positive thoughts. But, all of a sudden this morning, a solution struck me. (At least I think it will work). The situation seemed pretty hopeless but I refused to give up.  I realized that my “stinkin thinkin” was at work and I needed to look at the problem with a positive optimistic attitude and it worked!!!

Please don’t misunderstand, I stil have some even more major issues that have to be addressed, but I feel sure that if I face each one with the right attitude, I will find a solution.

So maybe it’s time for your check-up!  Are you doing everything you can do to make your dreams come true?  Are you facing each day with a plan and working that plan using all your time?  Do you actually put in the hours that you need, or do you find a zillion little personal things that need to be done.  If you had to go work every day, you would work 6-8 hours and never think a thing about it.  Are you putting in a day’s work on your business and your dreams?  Answer these questions for yourself and put on a smile and go out and grab your day!

So on this wonderful “Hump Day”, I wish you a positively happy productive day!

Is Your Business on Par?

Happy Friday!

Now that we are at the end of a  holiday week I find myself totally exhausted with all the work of a week compacted into three days. Surprised  Don’t get me wrong, I love holidays probably more than anyone, but trying to keep my business on track and still enjoying the holiday definitely keeps me on my toes.

The other day Amy and I were able to play a round of golf and it got us to thinking about the comparison between playing golf and running a business.  In golf each hole has a par which is the number of strokes you are trying to make to get the cute little ball into that tiny little hole. If you are running par, that is a GOOD thing.  But if you are below par, that is even better.

The question today is whether your business is running par or below?  We don’t count the number of strokes in our business, but the effort that you put into your business every day will make or break your par or below.  When playing golf, even though you totally blow it on a hole, you just keep at it.  You never see a golfer who just quits in the middle of the game because it isn’t going well.  They just keep working until their hard work pays off.  I will be the first to admit that in my golf game (and in my business) there have been times that I could have thrown in the towel.  But that would have accomplished nothing except making me feel more of a failure.  So I just keep plugging away until I see the success I am striving for.

They say that in Avon, as in other network marketing companies, the first 90 days are crucial because so many people give up during that time.  Consequently they never know how great they could have been, had they just kept working toward par.

As we approach the holiday season, I hope you will work on your business game daily!  After a day off, it is sometimes difficult to jump back in.  But if you will plan ahead on what you need to do when your day off is over, it will be much easier to jump back in with both feet. Smile

So look forward to the holidays when sales are going to be soaring, but plan your business so that the holidays are fun but also profitable.

Have a great week-end!

Find A Way

Good Morning,

I hope you had a great Labor Day Holiday and are anxious to get back to your Avon business. Smile

I imagine that you, like me, were following the news about Diana Nyad’s historic swim from Cuba to Miami!  If not, you missed an incredible story and I urge you to look it up.  Amy and I and a couple of friends went to Callaway Gardens to enjoy one last day at the beach.  But I must admit that frequently my mind was on Diana and her long swim.  As soon as I got home, I  checked to see if she had made it and she had!!!!!!

In case you are wondering why I am focusing on this so much today, it tells an incredible story that each of us can learn from.  Diana is 64 years old and has had this dream since she was 28.  This was her 5th attempt and possibly her last.  The obstacles she faced were unbelievable.  No shark cage, deadly jellyfish, and a 112 mile swim without stopping.  But she was chasing her dream and she wouldn’t give up.

Her words at the end just make me shiver and think about myself and my business.   She said “Never, ever, give up” and “You are never too old to chase your dream”.  So often in this business I see people give up on their dream when the going gets tough.  Or I hear, if I had known about this earlier in my life I could have done great.

Do we give up on our dreams when we run into problems?  Or we do “Find A Way” to make our dreams a reality?  Do you want to have an average life, or do you want to have an Above Average Income?  Are you willing to face those obstacles to pursue your dream?

Knowing that Diana Nyad at the age of 64 was willing to do whatever it took to make her dream come true gives me the strength to continue working to make my mine come true as well.  She gives a great deal of credit to her “wonderful” team that supported her through all of her work in this endeavor.  You, too, have a wonderful support team that you can depend on to help you through all your obstacles.  So use them!!

So maybe like me, when the going gets tough you can look at Diana Nyad and know that you CAN DO IT, if you never give up.

Just remember to “Find A Way” and have a great day.

Your Business is Like A Treetop Adventure

Hello!

If that title didn’t catch your attention, nothing will Laughing

To explain this one, I have to tell you that my children and I (and one girlfriend) went yesterday and did “A Treetop Adventure”.    It is an obstacle course and zip lines that is suspended in the treetops.

Seventy foot platformIf that sounds scary to some of you, let me assure you, it is!  However, I found many correlations between it and my business.

I REALLY wanted to do this adventure, but had many second thoughts over the last few weeks.  I finally realized that when you stop going for the new and adventurous, then you are truly stopped!  So off we went!

The course is much like your business in that it starts small and relatively easy and gets progressively harder and harder.  I kept telling myself, baby steps Micki, baby steps!  But I had to force myself many times to take a larger and larger step into unknown territory.  I will be the first to admit that there were a couple of times that I panicked and had to rely on Amy for reassurance that I COULD DO IT!  Just as we rely on our family, we can rely on our mentors or our upline to reassure us that we can make our business work.

Each time I had to jump from a platform onto a zip line, Amy was waiting at the next platform like a happy beacon urging me on.  But then we changed the order that we went and Amy was behind me. My first thought was, oh no, Amy won’t be there waiting for me, what will I do without her encouragement.  So, I told my son, I need you to be waiting and encouraging me when I get to the next platform.  So now I had the best of both worlds.  Amy was beside me when I pushed off, encouraging me, and Paul Wayne was waiting to encourage me at the other end.

Micki on the rope swing obstacle

So many times in our business we have to take a leap of faith at an obstacle that seems to loom larger and larger each time we look.  So many people won’t take advantage of the cheering section they have available that want to be of help.  They let the obstacle keep them from moving forward and being who they can be.

Now I didn’t set any records yesterday!  Nor did I perform with outstanding ability!   But I finished the course and I can’t tell you the satisfaction I got from that.

So maybe it’s time to look at the course of our business and start using our support team to help move past obstacles and finish. In Avon we can do what we want to make the money we want, but we have to go past the obstacles, take a few leaps of faith, and finish the course.

I hope your Monday and your week find you willing to do your “Treetop Adventure”. Do it, and as  Zig Ziglar always said  “I will see YOU, and yes, I do mean You,  At The Top!

Goals and Dreams

TGIF!!!

Well, it’s Friday again and I know everyone is looking forward to a relaxing weekend with family and friends!  But as we go into the weekend I would like you to give some thought into a subject that was covered in a conference call I was on yesterday.

Everyone has goals and dreams that they keep in their mind and hearts.  They may be things that they talk about to anyone that will listen, or they may be things that are in their secret heart that only they know.  But in the Avon business, I have become increasingly aware of the need to know what a persons dreams are.  No, I am not nosy, but if you don’t know what a person wants how can you help them get there?

In goal planning, you have to have a goal set in order to reach it, but your mentor also needs to know where you want to go so that they can help you with the steps needed to head in the right direction.

I will admit that as a general rule I know what my Leaders want by virtue of the fact that I talk to them all the time and we share our dreams and goals.  However, I realized this week that I don’t know a lot about the regular reps on my team.  It was pointed out that this is a mistake and I agree.  How can I help these people reach the heights they want in Avon if I don’t know where they want to go.  I have made it a point to talk to some of them and I found it interesting that a lot of times they are not sure themselves.  So I give them the task of thinking about it and getting with me in a couple of days with their answers.

But knowing their dreams and goals is only part of the solution.  As a leader you must be willing and able to take those things and help them formulate a plan of action for achieving them.  Does this mean more work for you?  Definitely!!  But I feel like the satisfaction of seeing someone achieve their dreams will make it worth it.

So I leave you on this Friday with this.  Do you know YOUR goals and dreams and have a plan of action to achieve them?  If not, then I encourage you to work on this ASAP.  Also, do you know the goals and dreams of the people in your downline?  Are you willing to help them formulate the same plan of action to achieve them?  I hope you are are because the rewards will be worth much more than the effort required.

Have a great week-end!

Your Fortune in the Follow-Up

Good Morning,

To continue with the ideas we had yesterday, Sales & Recruiting 101, we are going to talk about follow-up.

I know that everyone has been putting out a zillion books and talking to at least 3 people every day about the Avon opportunity Smile.

Now you are home waiting for the phone to ring and wondering why no one is calling!  I’m sure at some point in time you have received a catalog in the mail, flipped through it and found a couple of things that you thought you would like to purchase.  Then you put it down to get on with your life and didn’t think about it again until one day you threw it out with yesterday’s trash.  This is where follow-up becomes crucial.

I can’t tell you the number of Representatives who have told me that their current order was “horrible” and that they were fixing to get on the phone.  And, of course, they pulled off a good order!  People have busy lives these days and unless we, as good representatives, are there to remind them, they will forget that there really were “several” things they needed or wanted from our brochure.

So when you give out a book, I always try to leave it somewhere that I can check back “just to see if there is anything they needed”.  If that is not possible, try to at least get a name and phone number, so that you can touch bases with them.

This personal connection with your customers and potential customers is one of the things that has made Avon a household word over the last 126 years.  Trust me, I do not consider myself an expert on this, but everything in the sales industry shows that this follow-up is imperative for continued sales.

Now to follow that thought into recruiting is a natural progression. Many times when you have offered the Avon opportunity to someone they are hesitant and need to think about it. Then you are unable to reach them by phone or they don’t return your call.  Is this because they don’t want to talk to you?  Possibly!  But then again, people are busy with their lives and sometimes the timing just isn’t right.  We don’t want to be obnoxious, but we don’t want to give up on someone who may want to do it, but just isn’t ready at this moment.

The person you don’t call back could be your next “SuperStar”.  Are you willing to take the chance of losing them because you forgot to follow-up?  While we don’t want to annoy people, we also don’t want them to think we don’t care enough to check back periodically.

I am sure that a lot of this today seems elementary to most of you, but I know that a lot of people do not take follow-up seriously.  I know I do, but I always have room for improvement.

I hope this has given you a little food for thought and maybe in some small way will help you to improve both your sales and recruiting.  I am so proud of everyone that is out there building their business and I am always here to try and help in any way I can.

Have a “WONDERFUL” Day!

Sales & Recruiting 101

Good Morning,

As we begin our new week, I must admit I have given a lot of thought to the problems people seem to be having in building a customer sales base and recruiting.

It is something that in our Avon business, we must always be aware of, but sometimes I think we actually overthink it.  So today, I am suggesting that we get back to the basics!

SALES

I think the first thing to remember is that we have a wonderful company that offers a wonderful product and a great opportunity.  So often I hear from Representatives that they don’t want to seem pushy.  I agree with this since I am the same way.  But offering a brochure for someone to look at is not Pushy to me.  They have the chance to look at quality products at great prices with personal service from a caring representative. To me,  that is a winning combination!!

With that being said, our brochure is the basis of every sale we make. But many reps will not make a commitment to their business by buying ample brochures to pass out.  You need to look at it as though you are a store in the mall.  Should your store be open only 1 hour, 1 day a week, your sales will be slim to none.  But if you are open the entire time, your sales will definitely reflect the difference.  So if you only put out a few books, versus say 100, your store is only open a short time. I have seen time and time again, when a representative makes the commitment and puts out the books their sales continue to grow and really make them some money. So if you are ready to build your sales and your customer base, maybe it is time to get back to the basics and get out more books.

RECRUITING

Those of us in Avon are so lucky to be with a company that offers unlimited earning potential to those who are willing to take advantage of the opportunity.  So why do we have so much trouble in recruiting?

Unfortunately, fear of rejection seems to be a issue that affects a lot of us.  I have to admit, I’m not crazy about it myself.  But, of course, if they reject the idea of a career with Avon, it is not us they are rejecting.  But I feel that we owe it to anyone to at least offer the opportunity to everyone!  How many companies offer you the ability to make what you want to make, working from home in your own timeframe?

There are many ways to get the word about our opportunity out, but the tried and true method of talking to 3 people a day, every day is still basic.  This doesn’t mean that you have to go out and deliberately prospect all day!!!   But while you are out, every day, make it a point that you do NOT leave for home until you have spoken to at least three people about the opportunity to make extra money (or even a career change).  It has been proven over and over that this works.  SO why not try it?

I know that all of this sounds simple, but I do believe that getting back to the basics is a good start forward.  There are a lot more ways to increase our sales and build our team and I hope to be able to cover some of those this week.  But until then, look at what you are doing and see if maybe YOU need to get back to the basics and work forward. I truly look forward to watching your sales soar and your team grow as we grow together in our Avon business.
